Coconut Oil Hair Conditioner

Coconut oil is commonly used for improving the texture and health of hair. It contains proteins required for the healthy growth of hair. Constant use of coconut oil provides nourishment to the hair roots as it penetrates the shafts to protect each strand of hair. If it is used before shampooing then coconut oil helps in reducing dandruff problems but without the harmful side effects that other chemical products can cause. Coconut oil also helps in relieving stress if it is used to massage the scalp with a light circular motion in the scalp will provide a lot of relief from stress and strain.

How is coconut oil good for conditioning the hair?

Conditioners available in the markets nowadays just help in coating the shaft of the hair and give a false illusion that the hair is healthy. Shampoos and conditioners also deprive the hair of the required oils and make it brittle and dry causing split ends. On the other hand, coconut oil reloads the necessary oils required for healthy, shiny and bouncy hair. Coconut oil helps in strengthening the hair and preventing hair from breaking and split ends.

There are three ways in which coconut oil can be used for hair conditioning.

  • Applying 3 or four teaspoons of coconut oil for the whole night, a night before washing hair would provide deep conditioning.
  • Each strand of hair has to cover with oil. Hair can be washed normally after coconut oil is applied. Normal conditioning of coconut oil can be done by applying oil for around two to three hours before washing. Even that would work as a good conditioner.
  • To get relief from dandruff, two teaspoons of oil need to be massaged in the scalp, half an hour before the hair is shampooed and then it is washed normally. Regular use will help in reducing dandruff.

Coconut oil is an excellent conditioner for the hair because of the following reasons:

1) Anti-dandruff:

2) Lauric Acid:

Hair loss and hair fall are caused due action of microbes on the hair. Lauric acid which is present in coconut oil is gets converted to a monoglyceride called monolaurin when bacteria act on it. Monolaurin possesses antimicrobial properties and is very good for hair.

3) Vitamin E:

Vitamin e present in coconut oil helps in keeping the scalp healthy.

4) Capric Acid:

Capric acid is also a triglyceride and is known for its anti-microbial property.

Capacity to maintain moisture: Since coconut oil is capable of keeping moisture as it is stable oil so it helps in preventing hair breakage.
